MMT Productions – Copyright, Fair Dealing, Fair Use, and Satire/Opinion Notice
The “Horrible Covers” section of MMT Productions (https://mmtproductions.ca) exists for the purpose of critique, commentary, education, and satire relating to book cover design. All commentary posted in this section constitutes editorial opinion, which is protected expression.
Use of Third-Party Images (Book Covers)
This site may display book cover images for identification, review, criticism, or educational discussion. These images are used in good faith and without commercial intent. Only the minimal necessary portion—typically a single, reduced-resolution image—is used.
Canadian Law (Fair Dealing – Copyright Act of Canada, R.S.C., 1985, c. C-42):
Use of cover images and commentary is permitted under Section 29 (Fair Dealing) and Section 29.1 (Criticism or Review). Canadian law allows limited reproduction of copyrighted material for the purpose of legitimate criticism or review.
United States Law (Fair Use – 17 U.S.C. § 107):
For U.S. users, our use also qualifies as Fair Use, as the content is transformative, non-commercial, limited in scope, and for criticism, comment, and education. Such use is recognized as lawful under federal copyright law.
Satire, Opinion, and Free Expression:
All written commentary on this site represents opinion and satire, which is protected under:

A negative opinion about a publicly released creative work is not defamation, even if the creator dislikes or disagrees with the critique.
Copyright Ownership
All book cover images remain the property of their respective copyright holders. MMT Productions claims no ownership over third-party images used solely for commentary.
Legal Notices and Takedown Requests
Rights holders who believe material has been used improperly may submit a formal legal notice. To be considered, a notice must include:
- Full legal name and contact information of the complainant
- If represented by counsel, the lawyer’s name, firm, and verifiable law society/bar number
- The exact URL(s) of the material in question
- A signed statement of ownership and explanation of the alleged issue
- Evidence of copyright ownership or authorization

By using this site, you acknowledge that the “Horrible Covers” section operates under legally recognized protections permitting criticism, commentary, and satire of publicly released works. Being unhappy with a critique is not grounds for removal.
